I am here at IUPUI, because I want to attend the IU school of Nursing. It is a requirement that I take this course. I took it in college before, but it didn't transfer. It is a skill to be able to write well. One's ablility to write prolifically and properly is something everyone should strive for. I can see why the university might view this as an important resource to our education. That being said; the decision to take this class was not my own. As our instructor has stated, I am one of many (I assume) who view this class as a means to an end. I need it for my Nursing application and I Need an A!
I hope that this class will allow me to become a better writer, someone who accuratly conveys her thoughts and feelings in a way that appeals to my target audience. I can only assume it will be of benefit to my career.
Yes.....getting through this class will make me happy. I know exactly what I want, I just have to be able to get there.
I am right there in agreeance with needing this class for acceptance into a program. Knowing that just achieving the credits for the class isn't the only outcome hoped for after completion, gives a new reason for taking the course. Getting the grade and understanding the principles of an acceptable paper seem to go hand in hand.
ReplyDeleteComing into the class with just the hopes of getting through it simply can't be the choice. It is, as you stated, a means of writing papers, filling out applications etc.. to the expectations of our goals.
I think at some point throughout the duration of this course your views will change. You will enjoy being in it more than you will enjoy being done with it.
ReplyDeleteThanks Griffith, I hope so! I used to love writing, poetry, stories even song lyrics. sometimes the weight to the world weighs you down so much that you lose touch with parts of yourself. Perhaps I wont look at this as a hurdle and try to see it as a chance to find a piece of me I am missing. :)
