The reason I am here at IUPUI is to pursue a teaching certificate in social studies. My ultimate goal is to become a teacher and a coach. I am taking this class for the obvious reason, that it is a requirement for admission into the Teacher Education program. I also understand and appreciate the university’s perspective that a college level writing course is important to acquiring a well-rounded education for the student. It has been my experience that most professors emphasis the importance of writing in college level courses. As students move forward in their college careers, they will be expected to write various term paper, research papers, and essays. This class is intended to develop the fundamental skills necessary for students to do well in the future. As for taxpayers willing to pay for students to take this course, I think it has been determined that a college level writing course would be beneficial to society as a whole. There a several careers and occupation such as teachers, doctors, lawyers, and law enforcement for example that requires the ability to write effectively.
