What I Learned- Amber Bruner

Before writing the image analysis and synthesis, I thought to myself that it wouldn’t or shouldn’t be too hard since I had literally just did both in the last semester of high school. Then as I remembered, college is different. When I got the results from Keith, it wasn’t bad at all, but to turn it in for the final portfolio, it has to be longer. Length has always been my fear in writing. As a high school freshman, I wanted to be a writer, I attempted to write a book; by the time I was done, it was only ten pages long, and that was in handwriting, not even typed. Ten pages is nowhere near the length it needed to be. This fear carries on into college. So far, all my papers have needed to be longer. With the comments in the margins and ideas I have gotten, I believe I have the materials or knowledge to achieve the proper length for almost all my papers throughout my college years. I know what I need to do to lengthen papers; this is all thanks to notes left in the margins of my Image Analysis and synthesis, also from asking when Keith walked around the room to each peer response group.

  1. I thought it wasnt going to be that hard either. I thought I was just going to breeze by like I usually did. My paper needed to be longer too and it was hard for me to make the cut.

  2. I agree! i thought the class was going to be an easy A, and that all the essays would have been research essays or something. You tried writting a book, what was it about?

  4. I thought writing the image analysis essay was going to be easy also. In the past I had taken a couple art classes where I had to analize images and then reflect on them so it was something I figured I knew how to do already, so when writing the paper I just kind of went for it, not keeping in mind that I was in a COLLEGE English course. Keith critiqued the paper harshly. On the otherhand,as far as lenth, I just kind of write what comes to mind and when I'm done, I read over my work and add in things (other ideas that come to mind about the subject of the topic)as i read through the paper. When I'm typing my paper, if more ideas come to mind, I try to incorporate them as well. This helps with length for me.

  5. I agree it was harder for my to get the lenghts. I think sometimes you keep in the back of your mind that this paper needs to be a certain length. so sometimes you just be putting things in your paper jus to meet the length requirement.
