trip

Eiteljorg Museum

Since our class theme is home I think it was a good idea to go to the museum so that first year students could see what home was like when Indians inhabited it and to show people the native life of where they are living and going to school before it grew and industrialized.
I didn’t expect much honestly because I had been there before and so had my friend recently. I expected to see Indian stuff and it interested me a little but overall it was boring.
I approached this visit as class work because that’s what was on my mind that whole time. I was thinking about papers and assignments that I had to do about the museum. I think visiting as a tourist is better to see museums because you take everything in because you know you won’t get to see this for a while. If you go as a class you are forced to and if you live close you always have the thought that since you live so close, you can go see it any time. I could connect what I was seeing most to my geography class because it had a lot of cultural items, Andy talked a lot about cultural and I tried to see what their cultural identity was.
I think excursions like this are valuable because I t gets kids out of the classroom and gives them another way to learn and explore. It gives them freedom and the option of learning in a different way that isn’t usually available. Some students really enjoy that. It was like hands on experience.
I think trips to the museums would be valuable to any citizen who was interested in the museum. If they are not interested they most likely are going to blow the whole opportunity. A museum shows you more things than a movie and lets u look and read  objects for as long as you want. It catches your attention more and you can pay attention more because you have control, where as in a movie you have no control. I think everyone needs to go into the expiernce with an open mind and they will get a lot out of it.
They believed in holy spirits, I saw many statues and artifacts that displayed that. They believed that there was an all mighty force because I read that that was how one of the tribes was formed. They also believed in using their resources. This was shown in everything thing from their baskets to their houses. They used local resources to build it.
I did not pick up a lot of the languages but I think a lot of tribes had different languages so it was hard for them to communicate.
I think the level of technology was pretty god for their era. They made baskets and used what they had well to get by.
