What I Have Learned

 

          In the image analysis essay, I learned alot of things that I would never have previously even thought about. I already knew that advertising played a huge role in our society, but I didn't understand how huge of a role and all of the things it effects until writing about it on my own. Advertisements target every audience in some way. Even though one ad might appear to me aiming their attention to women, it could also be aimed at men, older women, etc. I knew that advertisements gave a perfect picture of the way people should look, how to dress, what makeup to wear, etc. When I began to pick out of advertisements I noticed that they also influence the way different people are supposed to behave and what kind of characteristics and personalities different people should have. My image anaylsis essay was based around the idea of men's superiority to women. Until writing this essay I would have never looked at an article and thought that it displayed the belief that men are superior to women.
          I also learned alot of things in the synthesis essay. I did not know much about the different types of sex education. I knew that there was abstinence only, and that there was comprehensive, but it did not know all of the things that fit into these catagories and the difficulty that educators have with being one sided and not open minded about the two co-existing. I also learned alot about education in general. I never thought about the fact that students just want an education to get a good job. One of the articles I used in my synthesis essay was about how students should want to get an education to better themselves and achieve human excellent, not just to pursue better jobs. That definatly changed my way of thinking about the way I personally learn and the goals I have in getting and pursuing an education.
