Lessons Learned

I think that the most important thing that the past essays have taught me is to wallow in complexity. Not only does it come in handy to construct arguments or even to come up with postings on the blog, but to look at the things that are going on around me and taking them apart to analyze them has been an invaluable skill that I will never neglect to use for the rest of my life. It has changed the way I view my country, my school and the way I live my life. I now am able to more fully think through decisions and their ramifications before hand.

My Image analysis essay focused on two very different images. One from America and one from Germany and both during World War II. After you look at the images and their appeals you realize that the way governments appeal to you are not different across cultural, continental or the borders of time. The Synthesis essay taught me that even if I think myself right in an argument or view, it is still best to take into account the views and opinions of others. It makes you a better listener and you gain more knowledge with an open mind. Yes, I know that was cliché

All in all, I like to think that I learned a lot from this class, I think I grew intellectuality and gained an interesting way to view my life and the events in it that will shape my future. Also thanks to everyone else in the class. You had interesting input that helped me look at things in new ways, and it was a big help.

  1. I am glad to see that this class opened up your eyes as well. Like you said, I too now look at eveything more critiacally (whether it is in writting or everyday life). I do see these skills coming in handy down the road too. I have also learned to be more open to the views of others through my writting and to not "turn people off" to what my paper is trying to say.

  2. What really helped me when writing my papers was to start things off broad and then work into more detailed. My class also helped me with generating ideas i might have not taken into account!
