Course Reflection

Happiness is what everyone is looking for. Before we set out to reach happiness we need to think and reflect.... use deep thoughts and wallow in complexity about what really makes us happy. If we don't do this we could end up in a cycle of perpetually buying or working in hope of achieving our happiness. If we do this our happiness will constantly be changing from object to object. I found in my reflection that objects will always change and lose meaning, but true friendships and relationships are here to stay. Why put your time, money and effort into achieving an object that you will lose interest in? At age (our around 19) happiness is getting through college, and we see this as being reached by getting a good looking grade on a piece of paper. But could we possibly value learning more than the grade? The information you can take from your college classes should be far more valuable to you than a grade. From my w131 eng class i feel that it showed me that everything you do in college you can use in some way, sometimes even your classes may tie-in to each other.

  1. You seem to have settled on real happiness being the long-term kind. What would you call the short-term feeling, then, that many people confuse with happiness? Is it still happiness--just unsustainable (same feeling; just doesn't last as long?) Or is it something else entirely (a unique emotion that feels very different from happiness?)

  2. I agree with the thought that material objects lose their meaning and become of less importance over time. I also agree with your thought that concrete things in life last, such as the people in your life. But I also think that some relationships are not always here to stay. In high school you might have a best friend for four years and then after you graduate you could lose touch and never talk again.

  3. Through writing my image analysis essay i have seen that the media can convey immoral actions taking place.. does this mean that we can hold people accountable for their actions if we see them as potential beneficial and normal by the media's stance? The media has a very powerful affect on society and we let it become that way. I believe this essay really showed me how much of affect the media has on us.
In the synthesis essay i began to depict the sociologic problems created by the differences in each generation. I have a better understanding of why the millenial generation is looked down upon, which this knowledge i can use to work against the stigma created.

Sorry for the inconvenience everyone i did not write about the image analysis or synthesis essay, i should have addressed them in the post above!!

  4. I agree, everyone does want to be happy. However, I feel as though not everyone is longing for longterm happiness. A lot of are looknig for instant gratification. For example, a person that has experienced nothing but bad luck, he or she would do whatever it takes to change their direction of fate, do that they're happy.
