What the image analysis did to me
I chose my peices and began writing my image analysis. It wasn't until I really got to the meat and bones of my essay that I began to realize that I was very connected with what I was writing about. I wrote about how the camera angle and posing of the female subjects made them appear as docile and subserviant and how the unralistic portrayal of these models was a large proponent inn young girls and their body image problems. No one tells these girls that the models ahve been photoshopped to be blemish free and made even skinnier than they actually are. I found it infuriated me how calously these ads circulated without regaurd to the damage it could cause to a young persons self image. When will companies take responsibility for their actions?

Sex sells and always will sell, no matter what. No major industry cares about individuals, only profits. They would not put out ads like this if they were not lucrative. If anything you ask for ever comes about, the smoking industry would die, near all cosmetic sales would drop, and sales in general would drop. This just won't happen.
ReplyDeleteI realize this Nick, however I would hope that people would see the damage this does to young girls' self-esteem. Being a guy I dont believe there is as much pressure on you to look an exact certian way. It seems rediculous to critize me for wanting my neices to know that it is not realistic to look that way and they can still be beautiful if they are not a 00.,
