so far in w131
So far in W131, my writing has improved significantly. I have always been a decent writer and really enjoy writing both in my free time with blogging or professionally with classes. When I find something really interesting to write about I seem to not be able to stop. I do tend to lose my determination and focus though when I don't enjoy the topic that I am researching or writing about. But since I've been in 131 this semester, the teaching and readings have helped expand my knowledge on basic structure of an essay. Ill say that the total aspect of my writing such as ideas has not been effected much but more the composition and organization of my writing. This leads to the all over flow of the writing and much of the sense the writing makes. Ive learned how to better structure my essay to add tension and to make better sense of it. Ive also learned how to best write a thesis statement and what needs to be included in that sentence. As well as the fact that it doesn't have to be the last sentence of the first paragraph. I've also noticed that I tend to not add introductions into my writing and just jump right into the topic of the essay. I need to introduce my idea before I just start describing it. Another thing that I've caught onto is that a revision of your first draft is not an editing of it but more of a broadening of your topic. It includes you looking at the purpose of your essay and continuing to explore that idea. Going deeper and writing more about it or specifying the idea even more to be more clear and precise. Writing is a much more in depth process than I had originally thought and good writing is a product of focus and time investment. Without these tools and resources to ensure that your writing is properly put together and makes sense, you just have a first draft of an essay...or a story.
