Our Great Country

I don't know if there are others that have been seeing what has been happening these past few days. For those of you who are in the blind, let me give you a quick recap.

Our government was on the verge of a "shutdown", meaning that they would run out of money to continue federal programs since the budget for this year had yet to be passed. This would have meant the national parks, the IRS, and other facilities would have had to close their doors and send all the workers home without pay. This shortfall would have also fallen on our soldiers who are currently overseas serving their country. They would of had to continue to fight, but get paid later, all while the bills at home would continue to come in. There would have been no interest payments on late paychecks or anything of the sort from the government.

What was the hold-up of the budget bill? Medical rights for women and planned parenthood. This issue nearly shut down the government because they as elected officials stick to their own personal values rather than the interests of the public in which elected them. Some said that they didn't want to spend tax payer's money on abortion clinics, when only 5% of the funds go towards. The other 95%? Pap smears. STD, testing, and counseling programs. Because the biggots of capital hill, we almost had a calamity on our hands.

To much relief, there was a temporary agreement set forth to leave out the section of planned parenthood. And what does capital hill do? They celebrate and congratulate themselves for doing such a great job. what makes me angry about it is that they still have yet to come to a resolution and WHY ARE THEY BEING CONGRATULATED FOR DOING THEIR JOBS?!?! Seriously, no one praises me for the work that I do. They didn't do anything special. So why are they any different?

I am curious to hear what some of you feel about this and what was your reaction to the news...

Thanks for looking!

  1. You are not the only one angered by this Dan. The thought to stop paying our troops over seas fighting for the only thing this country still has left, freedom, sounds like the worst idea to come out of our government in a long time(that is saying something). Why doesn't government start looking at something we could cut? Such as WELFARE, and actually regulate what these "helpless" people spend their money on. I've seen people go to a gas station, buy pop and candy with her hoosier card. I don't think my tax dollars should be spent to buy this person something they do NOT need. Obama thinks not paying government workers is ok, but making it easier to obtain welfare money they dont deserve definately will help our economy...

  2. The budget crisis has angered me as well. I think if the government shuts down the members of congress should not get paid. Why should they get paid when they cannot complete the job we elected them to do. I also feel that these members should get impeeched. If I did not do my job correct there would be a good chance that I would lose the job to someone else that can actually do what is asked of them.

  3. The greatest part of all this, is that Obama personally wrote a letter to the house telling them in big bold letters and underlining the fact that he PERSONALLY would veto any bill to pay our soldiers if the government shut down.

  4. This whole situation is just really frustrating. And I hope they have no hope of getting reelected because I am not voting for anyone who does not do their job. I loved when they were showings video of them some of our officials were checking their blackberry and signing their autographs to pictures of themselves. I thought they were trying to stop our government from shutting down, not worrying about their own agendas.
Another thing they do not realize is that even if they cut the budget of Planned Parenthood, they are still going to pay for the people who use these services. They are just going to pay for them from another fund. Planned Parenthood provides people who cannot afford to go to the doctor and get birth control, tested for STD's, and Pap smears. So now they cut the funds from they cut funds from this program, preventing people that need it most likely causing more unplanned pregnancies, untreated STD's and cervical cancer going undetected. So now these people who couldn't even afford birth control from the doctor have to pay for a child they have NOT planned for. Oh, guess what now they have to use another program provided by our government such as WIC or food stamps. Oh and they are probaly going to need medicaid for their new baby because they cannot afford all of their unplanned child's doctors bills. Obviously Planned Parent Hood needs their funding and our Soldiers need paid!
