I really like the synthesis essay assignment. I think that it's a really great way to refresh your mind to analyzing and looking deeper into the meaning of a topic or article. In general, I believe that analyzing a topic allows a person to really understand everything that was meant to be involved with the topic whether it's an argument, comparison or just facts. Analyzing any piece of writing further more enhances the learning process. You also get more or a feel for writing and styles of writing. I think that the synthesis essay is even more beneficial to learning about the writing process because you have to introduce an idea. I had a lot of trouble with this at first because I didn’t quite understand how to do that. I still don’t know if I accomplished the skill completely. I do know that it was definitely a learning process in my analysis of the two articles that I chose. I found the topics extremely interesting which of course always helps with the writing process. However, I introduced a new idea based on a similarity between the two readings. Im hoping that I correctly synthesized this way, but afterwards it wasn’t the same as our in class work. Either way, it was good practice for the final portfolio!
I found the essay to be rather difficult. I read the essays and wrote mine on if we were to find alternate ways of grading and testing it would bring down the stress and anxiety of students. I hope this was a good new idea to explore.
ReplyDeleteDoing the synthesis essay really took alot of deep thinking on my part. Having to get my point across without going over board and getting off the subject was the most difficult part of the assignment.
