Today's class discussions kind of caught me off guard. Everyone has perfect grammar? Now this is an idea I don't understand. I do understand that the way you talk does not determine how intellegent you are or even your eductaion. But how is saying "ax" instead of ask more efficient or fluent. Mispronouncing the word probably, I guess I get. But ax and ask are both completely different words that do not mean the same thing, so how can you say one for the other? Why do we learn anything in elementary school if it doesn't even matter? As an elementary education major I wonder if things will have changed by the time I start teaching and if I will be just teaching my kids useless standards. Even things you learn in high school seem to not be important at the university level. Although I do respect that the language has changed for hundreds and that we, as english speakers, are able to communicate.

I think we should all still try to talk proper or atleast not try to make our own language. My friends spell it "aks" :)
