Blog 2

When I first started reading Generation Me, I didn’t really like it at all. I thought it was God awful. As I progressed reading it though, it became more interesting to me. I know the book is obviously about generational differences, but I do not like how many generalizations are made. Granted, when reading it it did make me think of people I knew, like “hey, I know people who do that.” Even though, because of age, I am a part of generation me, I do not feel like I follow all of the things Twenge talks about.
For my summary strong response paper, I think I might write about generation me and sex. Just like the students Twenge had mentioned in her book, I think it is the most noticeable generational change. Perhaps I could write about the changes on the act of sex and on the idea of it; what people thought about it before and what people think about it now. I may also write about the consequences, good and bad, from the change.
While writing the paper, I hope to discover numerous things. I want to find out what caused it. Just like everything else that changes people want to know what caused it. That’s what I want to do with my topic; to find out what has changed since past generations that makes teenagers so okay with sex. Since it is not mentioned, that much in the book, I would also like to figure out how the older generations are taking to such changes.

  1. Just curious, why do YOU think it sex has changed so much over the years?

  2. I find myself agreeing with you in the regard of think Twenge was a little to hard on us as a generation. Your topic is one that could certainly be covered well. This is partially about what you think has happened. So you must explore that aspect as well.
