My experience at the Eiteljorg was wonderful. I never knew the native americans been through so much. My expectations were different then what i expected. When I first found out we were going to the Eiteljorg I thought it was going to be some lame museum. Since I'm not from Indiana I thought it was good to learn about the natives in Indiana and where they come from. Its really good to show for the TLC group because are theme is "No place like home". So it was good to see how the natives made their home and survived. For my experience I thought it was really cool to see how they made alot of their equipment. When i saw how creative there clothes were and how they hunted for there food was really neat to me. What caught my eye was these people they call Left Handlers and how they were made fun of because they were left handed. Also I was looking at there winter wear and their was a jacket made out of walrus intestines. Now I know I wouldn't wear anything like that but i guess they had to wear what they had.
A freshman in college would have a good experience going to the museum. When they hear that there class is going to the Eiteljorg they should go with a open mind and when they get there they will see that it's not that bad. It's really cool to see how the natives lived their life before western took over. You would never think that there were people living on this planet before you or your family were born. I never knew about the native americans until i saw the movie Pocahontas. At the time i really didn't care for them because i was little. I just wanted to see Pocahontas. Then when I started School that's when i was introduced to history and I only paid attention so i could pass the class. But when I went to the Eiteljorg and actually seen the way the natives lived was wonderful.
I too had different expectations of the museum, but ended up enjoying the trip. I am from Indiana, but I had never visited the Eteljorg Museum, let alone even heard of it. I honestly don't know much about Indianapolis. I went into the musuem and actually became interested. I seen paintings that I liked, and other things I had never seen in reality, such as the Teepee display, with the real bear skin, where I was able to feel what it felt like. Those kind of things excite me. I ended up learning alot, and I also feel as though trips like these would be beneficial to other freshman.
