Throughout this whole process of writing a reflective paper on what happiness is. I would have to say that my definition of happiness has stayed the same. No one can really pin what happiness is for every human being in the world, but you can definitely describe it as a rollercoaster and relate it to depression, ironicly. You can relate happiness to depression because they both have that come and go affect. Does this mean that an antidepressant is the cure for happiness? Just something for you to ponder.
Happiness also is something that is what every human being is looking for. It's like a continious game of hide and seek. Once you find happiness, it's like the reset button is pressed and the game starts all over where you have to find happiness again.
That's true. Happiness is different for every person and trying to define it is hard. When i tried to define it I felt like I had a solid definition of what happiness means. However my definition didn't agree with other people and I had to find a definition that agreed with a majority of my audience.
ReplyDeleteI think that your connection between happiness and depression is very interesting.Happiness is what people make it themselves.I think People base their happiness of material things alot and when they lose those material things like money, houses, and cars they lose that happiness and become depressed. So they get the rollercoaster effect with their feelings like you mentioned.
ReplyDeleteI'm curious, do you think there is a way to prevent the "rollercoaster" effect or are we doomed by the nature of happiness to continue this cycle of "hide and seek?"
ReplyDeleteBecky, you should certainly produce writing that appeals to your readers and that meets the expectations of your audience--but that doesn't mean you have to agree with them. They might be wrong! Try making it your purpose to impress upon your reader the value of your perspective--or persuade your reader that he or she would benefit from adopting your approach to happiness.
